DESCRIPTION:
The students who have registered with SANC as Registered Nurses have undergone a two-year Bridging course for the Enrolled Nurses leading to registration as a General Nurse/ psychiatric Nurse.

Other students have done a 4-year Diploma course or 4-year Degree both leading to registration as a Nurse (General, psychiatric or community) and Midwife. The last intake of first entering students undergoing this qualification was 31 December 2019. 
AWARDING CRITERIA
For the Professional Designation to be awarded, professionals must comply with the following minimum requirements: 
Underlying Registered Qualification or Part Qualification:
  • 4-year Bachelor Degree at NQF Level 7 (leading to registration as a Nurse (General, psychiatric or community) and Midwife).
    or
  • 4-year Diploma at NQF level 6 (leading to registration as a Nurse (General, psychiatric or community) and Midwife).
    or
  • Registered as Bridging Diploma: General Nursing at NQF Level 5. 
  • Experiential Learning or Experience
  • Two thousand (2000) hours of clinical practice for the Bridging Diploma: General Nursing at NQF Level 5.
  • Four thousands (4000) of clinical practice for 4-year Diploma qualification or 4-year Degree both leading to registration as a Nurse (General, psychiatric and community) and Midwife. 
  • Competency Assessment
    Bridging course for Enrolled Nurses
  • The examination for the first academic year consists of two portions, namely-
    1. A written portion of two papers of three hours each on the subjects Integrated General Nursing Science I and Social Sciences I or Integrated Psychiatric Nursing Science I and Social Sciences I; and
    2. A practical portion conducted by the nursing school.
  • The final examination consists of three portions, namely-
    1. A written portion of one paper of three hours on the subjects Integrated General Nursing Science II or Integrated Psychiatric Nursing Science II;
    2. Practical portion conducted by the nursing school; and
    3. A written portion of one paper of three hours on the subjects Ethos and Professional Practice (including Ward Administration and Clinical Teaching) and Social Sciences.
  • Students write NEI examination for the 4-year Diploma qualification or 4-year Degree qualification both leading to registration as a Nurse (General, psychiatric and community) and Midwife. 
  • Designation RPL Statement
    This Designation may be awarded through Recognition of Prior Learning. 
    RETAINING CRITERIA
    In order to ensure the currency of professional knowledge and to retain the Professional Designation, the professional must comply with the following minimum requirements: 
    Code of Conduct
    Members must adhere to the Professional Body Codes of Conduct and Ethics. 
    Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
    At this stage, CPD is not yet implemented. 
    Fees
    Ensure that the annual membership fee is paid.
