DESCRIPTION:
The students who have registered with SANC as Midwives have undergone a one-year Diploma course or 120 credit qualification whereas the naming for the HEQSF aligned nursing qualifications is advanced diploma in midwifery. 
AWARDING CRITERIA
For the Professional Designation to be awarded, professionals must comply with the following minimum requirements: 
Underlying Registered Qualification or Part Qualification:
Advanced Diploma in Midwifery at NQF level 7. 
Experiential Learning or Experience
  • One thousand (1000) hours of clinical practice;
  • 72 credits for the Advanced Diploma in Midwifery (new qualification). 
  • Competency Assessment
    Legacy Midwifery qualification
    The preliminary examination consists of a written portion of one combined paper of three hours on the subjects Natural Sciences and Biological Sciences.

    The final examination consists of two portions, namely
  • A written portion of three papers of three hours each; and
  • A practical portion conducted by the nursing school.

    New qualification: The candidates write a licensure examination for the New Advanced Diploma in Midwifery. 
  • Designation RPL Statement
    This Designation may be awarded through Recognition of Prior Learning. 
    RETAINING CRITERIA
    In order to ensure the currency of professional knowledge and to retain the Professional Designation, the professional must comply with the following minimum requirements: 
    Code of Conduct
    Members must adhere to the Professional Body Codes of Conduct and Ethics. 
    Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
    CPD is not yet implemented officially. 
    Fees
    Ensure that the annual membership fee is paid.
