| DESCRIPTION: |
| The students who have registered with SANC as Midwives have undergone a one-year Diploma course or 120 credit qualification whereas the naming for the HEQSF aligned nursing qualifications is advanced diploma in midwifery. |
| AWARDING CRITERIA |
| For the Professional Designation to be awarded, professionals must comply with the following minimum requirements: |
| Underlying Registered Qualification or Part Qualification: |
| Advanced Diploma in Midwifery at NQF level 7. |
| Experiential Learning or Experience |
| One thousand (1000) hours of clinical practice;
72 credits for the Advanced Diploma in Midwifery (new qualification). |
| Competency Assessment |
Legacy Midwifery qualification
The preliminary examination consists of a written portion of one combined paper of three hours on the subjects Natural Sciences and Biological Sciences.
The final examination consists of two portions, namely
A written portion of three papers of three hours each; and
A practical portion conducted by the nursing school.
New qualification: The candidates write a licensure examination for the New Advanced Diploma in Midwifery. |

| RETAINING CRITERIA |
| In order to ensure the currency of professional knowledge and to retain the Professional Designation, the professional must comply with the following minimum requirements: |

| CPD is not yet implemented officially. |
