| DESCRIPTION: |
Graduate Health and Safety Prractitioner (GradSaiosh) is the second level of professional designations and provides an opportunity for persons with a diploma and practical experience to be designated to practice in the field of Occupational Health and Safety. The employment title for this level is Occupational Health and Safety Practitioner.
The candidate will be being able to implement and monitor an OHS programme with the need for expert Health and Safety strategy, forecasting, budgeting or complex occupational health and safety plans.
This person is expected to produce reports, advanced accident trending with advanced statistical interpretation, he/she is expected to provide guidance on prevention of accidents and incidents by using at least descriptive statistics.
The incumbent will be able to demonstrate the inter-relationship between occupational hygiene, occupational health, fire safety, occupational medicine, safety practice and general organizational management practice.
To improve health and safety in the workplace, by applying and health and safety theory and legislation in various contexts, with expert integration.
The GradSaiosh will be able to do integrated health and safety audits.
Implementing strategic health and safety systems and programs, identifying hazards and suggesting controls in or to mitigate those hazards, together with the necessary multi-disciplinary team.
He /she would be able to do advance quantitative and qualitative risk assessments of those hazards identified.
Providing advice within his scope of knowledge and not working outside of those boundaries as specified in the Code of Conduct.
Manage health and safety training.
Co-ordinate OHS management systems and programs.
Conduct OHS research.
Negotiate and manage conflict.
Co-ordinate occupational health, safety and risk management integration.

| AWARDING CRITERIA |
| For the Professional Designation to be awarded, professionals must comply with the following minimum requirements: |
| Underlying Registered Qualification or Part Qualification: |
| NQF level 6 diploma (360 credits) |
| Experiential Learning or Experience |
3 years post graduate workplace experience required.
Recognition of prior learning (RPL) - additional 3 years experience. |
| Competency Assessment |
| An assessment committee comprising of an examiner/s will conduct an observational examination of all documented evidence submitted as part of assessment and make recommendation for approval. The assessment committee comprises of one or more of the following persons: The Registrar / Executive Director, the General Manager, the Administrator and Board Members. |

| RETAINING CRITERIA |
| In order to ensure the currency of professional knowledge and to retain the Professional Designation, the professional must comply with the following minimum requirements: |
| Code of Conduct |
| Members must adhere to the Professional Body Codes of Conduct and Ethics. |
| Continuing Professional Development (CPD) |
| Members are required to complete CPD and must accumulate an amount of 80 CPD points per 3-year cycle as stipulated in the CPD policy by completing a range of OHS activities in different core areas. |
