DESCRIPTION: |
Associate Member (AIOSHSA) is the entry level of professional designations and provides an opportunity for newcomers with no practical experience to enter the field of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS). The employment title for this level is Occupational Health and Safety Coordinator (OHSCORD).
It represents a benefit to broader society in that it formalises entry into the field of OHS and addressing the skills of the OHS practitioner at entry level with the objective of contributing to the skills of the incumbent to be more successful in preventing incidents and injuries to the work force thus preserving valuable resources. It will assist in achieving the objectives of the NQF by taking charge of the continued development and upgrading of OHS practitioners entering the field. The purpose of the PD is to facilitate entry into the profession by school leavers and other persons desirous to become OHS practitioners and to guide them along a path of attaining excellence in their work and progressing to a true professional level. The range of typical recipients of the PD is unlimited as it spans across all fields of occupational activities and impacts on all occupations, jobs or areas. |
AWARDING CRITERIA |
For the Professional Designation to be awarded, professionals must comply with the following minimum requirements: |
Underlying Registered Qualification or Part Qualification: |
Complete an NQF Level 5 (10 credits) qualification in Occupational Health and Safety. |
Experiential Learning or Experience |
No experience required. |

This Designation may be awarded through Recognition of Prior Learning. |
RETAINING CRITERIA |
In order to ensure the currency of professional knowledge and to retain the Professional Designation, the professional must comply with the following minimum requirements: |
Code of Conduct |
Members must adhere to the Professional Body Codes of Conduct and Ethics. |
Continuing Professional Development (CPD) |
Members are required to complete CPD and must accumulate an amount of CPD points per annum as stipulated in the CPD policy by completing a range of OHS activities such as:
Attendance at Health and Safety workshops, seminars and information sessions.
Attending Health and Safety meetings.
Conduct Health and Safety training.
Giving presentations to inside and outside groups.
Running workshops.
Writing articles for in-house and general publications.
Further studies.
