DESCRIPTION:
A Geomatics Practitioner is defined by the Act as a "person who exercises skills and competencies in the science of measurement, the collection and assessment of geographic information and the application of that information in the efficient administration of land, the sea and structures thereon or therein and who is registered in one or more of the branches of geomatics" (South Africa, 2013). A Geomatics Technician is a person who has completed an accredited programme in geomatics at NQF level 6 (min 240 credits) at an approved institution of higher education. 
AWARDING CRITERIA
For the Professional Designation to be awarded, professionals must comply with the following minimum requirements: 
Underlying Registered Qualification or Part Qualification:
A registered qualification in the related field at NQF Level 6. 
Experiential Learning or Experience
Candidates must complete between 220 to 260 days compulsory training in a range of prescribed tasks under the supervision of a qualified person at least one designation higher and/or with a minimum of five years post registration experience before being awarded with a license to practice. 
Competency Assessment
Candidates must pass the relevant geomatics law examinations set by the Council. 
Designation RPL Statement
This Designation may not be awarded through Recognition of Prior Learning. 
RETAINING CRITERIA
In order to ensure the currency of professional knowledge and to retain the Professional Designation, the professional must comply with the following minimum requirements: 
Code of Conduct
Members must adhere to the Professional Body Codes of Conduct and Ethics. 
Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
Geomatics Technicians must accumulate and record at least 13 CPD credits over a five-year cycle. 
Fees
Ensure that the annual membership fee is paid.
