DESCRIPTION:
The designation is awarded to professional hunters duly licensed by the relevant Nature Conservation Authorities in the Republic of South Africa. 
AWARDING CRITERIA
For the Professional Designation to be awarded, professionals must comply with the following minimum requirements: 
Underlying Registered Qualification or Part Qualification:
Professional Hunter duly licensed by a South African nature conservation department.

Academic Component:
Certificate of professional hunting obtained at an accredited South African Hunting School or 58930: Further Education and Training Certificate: Professional Hunting, NQF level 4, minimum credits: 133. 
Experiential Learning or Experience
To obtain Professional Hunters' license a candidate as per Nature Conservation legislation must comply to the following:
  • Be 21 years old (some provinces allow licensing at age 18).
  • Be a South African citizen.
  • Must have practical hunting experience.
  • Must have a valid drivers' license.
  • Must have a competency certificate as issued by the SAPS in terms of the Firearm Control Act. 
  • Competency Assessment
    Nature Conservation Departments in each province conduct two examinations at the end of training:
  • General Examination (Fauna and Flora).
  • Provincial Nature Conservation Law pertaining to professional hunting and hunting in general Pass rate of 70% required for both examination papers. 
  • Designation RPL Statement
    This Designation may not be awarded through Recognition of Prior Learning. 
    RETAINING CRITERIA
    In order to ensure the currency of professional knowledge and to retain the Professional Designation, the professional must comply with the following minimum requirements: 
    Code of Conduct
    Members must adhere to the Professional Body Codes of Conduct and Ethics. 
    Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
    The following system was approved for a 3-yeaar cycle:
  • 2 points/day hunting and guiding an international client.
  • 2 points for attending PHASA annual convention where training and development is incorporated.
  • 4 points subscribing to PHASA's weekly newsletter.
  • 2 points for attending PHASA bi-annual provincial meetings.
  • 3 points for subscribing to PHASA's annual Magazine. 
  • Fees
    Ensure that the annual membership fee is paid.
