DESCRIPTION: |
A Pr. CHSA is a competent person who acts as a representative for a client in managing health and safety on a construction project for the client and who has satisfied the registration criteria of the SACPCMP to perform the required functions and to perform the prescribed functions in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, 1993 (Act No.85 of 1993); and the Construction Regulations 2014 and has been certified competent by the SACPCMP.
A Construction Health and Safety Agent shall be expected to demonstrate detailed knowledge of health and safety requirements at all levels, with the capability to design, compile, implement and manage the health and safety requirements for a construction project from Initiation and Briefing to Project Close-out. A Construction Health and Safety Agent shall also be required to show ability to mentor, coach and guide Construction Health and Safety Managers and Construction Health and Safety Officers. |

Underlying Registered Qualification or Part Qualification: |
Unit Standards in Occupational Health and Safety or Construction Health and Safety, NQF Levels 3 - 5
Diploma in Building, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Architecture, Civil / Electrical/Mechanical Engineering and Environmental Management, Level 6 PLUS Unit Standards in Construction Health and Safety
Advanced Diploma in Construction Health and Safety
Bachelor of Arts in Disaster and Safety Management (with Construction Safety Electives)
BSc / B-Tech in Construction Management, Building, Quantity Surveying, Architecture, Civil / Electrical/Mechanical Engineering and Environmental Management, Level 7 PLUS Unit Standards in Construction Health and Safety
Honours Degree in Building, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Architecture, Civil / Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Level 8 AND Unit Standards in Construction Health and Safety
MSc in Safety or Environmental Management, Level 9 PLUS Unit Standards in Construction Health and Safety |
Experiential Learning or Experience |
6 years' experience in the case of an individual with Unit Standards in Occupational and Safety/Construction Health and Safety, NQF Levels 3 - 5
5 years' experience in the case of an individual with a Certificate in Construction Health and Safety Management
6 years' experience in the case of an individual with a Diploma in Building, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Mechanical/Civil/Electrical Engineering
5 years' practical experience in the Construction Health and Safety Management environment in the case of an individual with a BSc/B-Tech in Building, Construction Management, Electrical/Civil/Mechanical Engineering
4 years' experience in case of an individual with an MSc the Construction Health and Safety Management environment |

RETAINING CRITERIA |
In order to ensure the currency of professional knowledge and to retain the Professional Designation, the professional must comply with the following minimum requirements: |
Code of Conduct |
Members must adhere to the Professional Body Codes of Conduct and Ethics. |
Continuing Professional Development (CPD) |
A minimum of 50 CPD hours (due to change in CPD policy) must be accumulated over a 5-year cycle in order to maintain registration. |
