DESCRIPTION:
A Beauty Technologist (BtHS) is a practicing professional who applies basic skincare, hand and foot treatments with nail treatments, hair removal and make-up applications and a basic back and neck massage and back treatment.

Some of the characteristics of a BtHS are:
  • Comply with all health and safety regulations in establishments and of clients and self.
  • Prepare and equip the self, work station, treatment area and the client to perform Beauty treatments.
  • Perform the following tasks:
    > Hair removal.
    > Make-up.
    > Manicure and pedicure.
    > Nail enhancement.
    > Basic Facial treatment.
    > Back and neck massage and back cleanse.
  • Provide advice to client on treatment plan, home care and use of cosmetic and health products.
  • Perform administrative and managerial tasks in the establishment. 
  • AWARDING CRITERIA
    For the Professional Designation to be awarded, professionals must comply with the following minimum requirements: 
    Underlying Registered Qualification or Part Qualification:
    Complete an NQF Level 4 qualification in Beauty Technology. 
    Experiential Learning or Experience
    200 as part of qualification obtained. 
    Competency Assessment
    N/A 
    Designation RPL Statement
    This Designation may be awarded through Recognition of Prior Learning. 
    RETAINING CRITERIA
    In order to ensure the currency of professional knowledge and to retain the Professional Designation, the professional must comply with the following minimum requirements: 
    Code of Conduct
    Members must adhere to the Professional Body Codes of Conduct and Ethics. 
    Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
  • Members are required to provide proof to SAAHSP of their CPD activities.
  • Members are required to accumulate 60 CPD points in a two year period by completing a range of accredited activities such as:
    > Attendance at workshops, seminars and information sessions.
    > Serving on committees.
    > Reading articles and writing articles.
    > Taking part in community or charity work.
  • The SAAHSP provides detailed guidelines to the allocation and value of point for each activity.
  • The Education Committee ensures that CPD activities requirements are co-ordinated and quality controlled. 
  • Fees
    Ensure that the annual membership fee is paid.
