DESCRIPTION: |
An Occupational Hygiene Assistant is the entry level into the SAIOH Professionals Registration system. A ROHA will do basic measurements of OH stressors and will not be expected to interpret results or write reports. They will work under constant supervision and mentorship of a registered Occupational Hygienist or still be studying towards a tertiary or approved qualification. |
AWARDING CRITERIA |
For the Professional Designation to be awarded, professionals must comply with the following minimum requirements: |
Underlying Registered Qualification or Part Qualification: |
A minimum of a Grade 12 school certificate (NQF: Level 4) or the OHTA 201 Principles of Occupational Hygiene module or the AIHA Basic Principles course or the BOHS M200. |
Experiential Learning or Experience |
Candidates for registration as Assistants are required to be studying in an occupational hygiene related field or be working under the supervision of a registered occupational hygienist. |
Competency Assessment |
The scope of the assessment will follow the minimum occupational knowledge and competency requirements as stipulated by IOHA. A copy of this document is available on the SAIOH website. Please check the exemptions as stipulated in the PCC Certification procedure as published on the SAIOH website.
Electronic or physical (written) Assessment:
This will consist of a set of multiple-choice questions on the basic principles of Occupational Hygiene and workplace exposure factors.
Length of assessment:
The maximum time allowed for this assessment is one hour.
Pass mark:
A minimum of 50% must be obtained for the written assessment. |
Designation RPL Statement |
This Designation may not be awarded through Recognition of Prior Learning. |
RETAINING CRITERIA |
In order to ensure the currency of professional knowledge and to retain the Professional Designation, the professional must comply with the following minimum requirements: |
Code of Conduct |
Members must adhere to the Professional Body Codes of Conduct and Ethics. |
Continuing Professional Development (CPD) |
To maintain registration as an Occupational Hygiene (OH) Assistant (ROHA) you must accumulate the required points as documented. For further information on CPD's, please refer to the SAIOH website. |
Fees |
Ensure that the annual membership fee is paid. |
