DESCRIPTION:
A Professional Accountant (SA) offers a wide range of professional services from Independent Reviews, Accounting and Tax, to various forms of Business Advisory Services such as:
  • Preparing financial reports in terms of required standards.
  • Interpreting financial reports and suggesting solutions to problems.
  • Assisting with strategy planning and execution.
  • Assisting in the formulation of business plans and financial forecasts.
  • Helping to control costs through cost accounting.
  • Assisting in identifying and managing risks.
  • Advising on suitable business structures.
  • Performing business or business unit valuations.
  • Advising on relevant Human Resource, Safety and Environmental regulations.
  • Rendering tax services. 
  • AWARDING CRITERIA
    For the Professional Designation to be awarded, professionals must comply with the following minimum requirements: 
    Underlying Registered Qualification or Part Qualification:
    A Bachelor`s Degree from a SAIPA accredited tertiary institution. The Degree must include the following core subjects:
  • Financial Accounting 3.
  • Taxation 1.
  • Auditing 1 or Internal Auditing 2 or Internal Control and Code of Ethics.
  • Corporate Law 1 or Commercial Law 2.
  • Management Accounting 1 or Financial Management 1. 
  • Experiential Learning or Experience
    Complete a minimum of 3 years' workplace experience with an Approved Training Centre or 6 years' relevant experience in an Accounting environment or a training programme from other accredited Professional Accountancy bodies recognised by SAIPA. 
    Competency Assessment
    Yes. Must have successfully completed the SAIPA Professional Evaluation, which is a four-hour written examination based on the core academic subjects and practical experience. 
    Designation RPL Statement
    This Designation may be awarded through Recognition of Prior Learning. 
    RETAINING CRITERIA
    In order to ensure the currency of professional knowledge and to retain the Professional Designation, the professional must comply with the following minimum requirements: 
    Code of Conduct
    Members must adhere to the Professional Body Codes of Conduct and Ethics. 
    Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
    Designees are required to conduct 120 hours of CPD over a three year period consisting of structured and unstructured activities. A minimum of 60 hours must be structured opportunities.

    Structured opportunities include:
  • Seminars offered by SAIPA.
  • SAIPA regional forums or mini-conversations.
  • E-learning courses.
  • Seminars and conferences offered by other professional bodies.
  • In-house company training and other short courses.
  • Writing published articles, papers and books.

    Unstructured CPD can include:
  • Reading relevant articles.
  • Project work.
  • Organised discussion groups.
  • Research into accounting related topics. 
  • Fees
    Ensure that the annual membership fee is paid.
