DESCRIPTION: |
Professional Engineering Technicians apply established procedures, practices, standards and codes of practice in support of engineering activities; they manage and operate routine engineering operations and processes; implement standard engineering systems and solutions; manage the implementation of straightforward and simple engineering projects and the routine maintenance of engineering infrastructure; they also manage the relatively low level risks associated with engineering processes, systems, equipment and infrastructure. |
AWARDING CRITERIA |
For the Professional Designation to be awarded, professionals must comply with the following minimum requirements: |
Underlying Registered Qualification or Part Qualification: |
An accredited three year National Diploma in engineering obtained at a University of Technology. |
Experiential Learning or Experience |
A minimum of three years post-National Diploma in engineering experience of a well-defined engineering nature, which entails exposure to the full life cycle of an engineering project: conceptualisation, planning, design, construction, implementation, operation, maintenance and closure. |
Competency Assessment |
A formal written application in the prescribed format, followed by a full experience appraisal assessment by an ECSA committee of peers in the same discipline of engineering as the applicant (there are nine accepted disciplines of engineering), followed by a final assessment of the registration committee for professional engineering technicians on the registerability of the candidate. |
Designation RPL Statement |
This Designation may not be awarded through Recognition of Prior Learning. |
RETAINING CRITERIA |
In order to ensure the currency of professional knowledge and to retain the Professional Designation, the professional must comply with the following minimum requirements: |
Code of Conduct |
Members must adhere to the Professional Body Codes of Conduct and Ethics. |
Continuing Professional Development (CPD) |
All professionally registered engineering practitioners have to obtain at least five CPD credits in at least two of the three categories of CPD activities prescribed by ECSA. (Developmental activities, Work-based activities and Individual activities) per year and twenty-five credits over a five year cycle. |
Fees |
Ensure that the annual membership fee is paid. |
