DESCRIPTION: |
This designation refers to a person in ministry who has gained specialised knowledge and skills on Master's or Doctoral level that are relevant to the ministry.
In the case of a pastoral / spiritual counsellor, this will be a trained professional who is called to and practices long term ministry from a religious perspective in a specialised, structured setting. This presupposes intensive training in techniques and practice, as well as extensive supervised training often in a clinical context. The focus is on growth, transformation, and healing from a spiritual perspective. |
AWARDING CRITERIA |
For the Professional Designation to be awarded, professionals must comply with the following minimum requirements: |
Underlying Registered Qualification or Part Qualification: |
A Ministry or theological qualification on at least Master's degree level at NQF Level 9. |
Experiential Learning or Experience |
A person with a relevant qualification but less than one year of ministry experience on this level will be registered as a "Religious Specialist intern". For Religious Specialists who will focus on pastoral counselling, practical experience must include at least seventy-five hours of supervised counselling experience.
For Religious Professionals who will focus on pastoral care and counselling, the practical experience must include at least seventy-five (75) hours of supervision. |
Competency Assessment |
Formal confirmation of the ministry experience as required for this designation (information provided on the application form and a third-party confirmation document) will be assessed by the responsible officer of the professional body. |
Designation RPL Statement |
This Designation may be awarded through Recognition of Prior Learning. |
RETAINING CRITERIA |
In order to ensure the currency of professional knowledge and to retain the Professional Designation, the professional must comply with the following minimum requirements: |
Code of Conduct |
Members must adhere to the Professional Body Codes of Conduct and Ethics. |
Continuing Professional Development (CPD) |
20 CPD points must be accumulated per 12-month period. |
Fees |
Ensure that the annual membership fee is paid. |
